Meryl Streep’s words of wisdom
Posted: May 27, 2010 Filed under: Contributing, Education Leave a comment »Meryl Streep was very impressive in this commencement address to Barnard‘s 2010 graduating class. Her message is one we can learn from and pass on. Here are some points that I thought important:
- Reflect on who we are and be true to our real selves – acting is ok some of the time, as long as we know that’s what it is
- In our reflections we must connect our affect with our actions – acknowledge that we are emotional beings and embrace that part of ourselves
- Exercise our empathetic gifts
Her references to reflection and authencity can also be seen in the writings of John Dewey and Parker Palmer.
Here’s a video of the speech … enjoy.
